History:
The most peculiar phenomenon in my pendulum is that it shows an elliptical
path which periodically changes its rotational direction, and that these
changes are synchronous with the North-South and East-West transitions
of the swinging plane.
Above all, when the rotational direction of the ellipse is kicked
to “the other way” it restores itself within a few hours.
I have contacted prof. Reinard Schumacher (*) about this and in his
enthousianism he started developing a computer simulation of these
effects which now seems to confirm the effects at least partly.
Current situation: (2025-05-31)
As
I am currently the only one who has seen and reported these effects in a real
pendulum, we are looking for someone else who can and will repeat such
experiments.
What is needed:
-
A Foucault pendulum which can run uninterrupted for many days and shows
the Foucault Precession for its location whithin a margin of some 5%.
-
This pendulum should not be a very long one, say a few meters, because
very long pendulums might show such effects much weaker.
-
The pendulum should not have means to reduce ellipse growth, like a
Charron ring or Eddy curent damping, although it might be interresting
to see what happens if such means are operative.
-
Preferably it should use the electro-magnetic repelling drive method
described by Schumacher (*) but other drive methods are welcome too.
-
A facility to monitor the dimensions and angles of the major and minor
axis of the elliptical path on a per swing base, and log these data for
several consecutive days.
(A kit with electronic circuits and software to do that is available now)
How can I help:
- Supply all needed information, in particular about the way I measure
and log the behaviour of my pendulum. Most of this is already on
the website here. Ask me if you need more info or if things are not
clear.
- Make the kit with electronics available soon (done nov ´25) Even if
you dont use it reading the docs may provide a lot of information.
What are the rewards:
- The joy of having contributed to some new insights in Newtonian dynamics.
(*) Schumacher (download) derives that when a repelling impulse is given at the right
moment, the
precession due to the elliptical path can be eliminated completely.
